Merry Christmas!

Not “Happy Holidays”.

It may make sense for the Post Office to print “Happy Holidays” on stamps, but it’s Merry Christmas for me because that’s my tradition. I mean no offense to anyone, but if someone wants to take offense, that’s on them. I’m not offended if someone tells me Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, or Happy Yule. Or for that matter, Happy Bodi Day, Namaste, or Hare Krishna. Those last two aren’t quite holiday greetings, but you get the idea.

People come from different traditions and celebrate different holidays. Why should that bother me? Why should it bother anybody? Who out there is so insecure, so touchy that any holiday greeting is going to wound them somehow?

We can take the political correctness crap too far. I should be okay with people telling me something from their (different) tradition if I’m going around wishing people Merry Christmas. I am, so I will. In the words of Clement Moore, “Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.”
